This stream, alongside high school study (classes 8, 9, and 10), emphasizes Islamic nurturing, character building, and life skills development. It includes Arabic and English children’s literature, LSRW, and religious lessons.

Eligibility for 8th grade admission, madrasa 5th grade or equivalent, and age must not exceed 14 years.

Entrance Examination

The CIC enrolls students on its preparatory (Thamheediyya) course after a centralized entrance test.

Who can apply

Those who are below 17 years and have completed their Secondary School (10th standard) and passed the seventh grade from any Madrassa run by the Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board (or equivalent) can apply for the CIC’s centralized examination.

Those who are 17-18 years old can also apply for the entrance test after obtaining special permission.

Weightage

The final ranks in the entrance exam are decided after adding the weightage of the applicant’s marks in the SSLC (10th grade) public examination.

Also, those who have memorized the entire Qur’an will be given a weightage of up to 5 marks based on a Hifz Test conducted along with the entrance exam.

Those who stay in the vicinity of the Wafiyya colleges will also be given weightage marks in the Wafiyya entrance examination for a fixed percentage of seats.

Format of the Entrance Test

The main entrance exam is a written test whereby students will be given multiple-choice questions and will have to shade in their answers in an OMR sheet.

The CIC has designed its curriculum, courses and academic programmes by harnessing the rich traditional Islamic curriculum that developed in India for centuries. Wafy and Wafiya courses have been tailored by updating the traditional Nizamiya syllabus that has been practiced by Islamic colleges in India for centuries.

While retaining the spirit of the traditional syllabus intact, modification has been achieved by introducing new topics and updating some traditional subjects. These measures were introduced to meet the new challenges and needs of time.

At preparatory level, the syllabus was designed by giving emphasis on Arabic language skills, with great emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing. This comprehensive strategy of teaching language is designed to learn Arabic and acquire its natural skills in the style of a mother’s schooling in which children learn the way their mothers language. With the help of qualified teachers and modern technologies, students can be enabled to learn the language in a fun-filled creative environment through listening, speaking, reading and writing

The CIC has taken its cue from the various Islamic universities and Al-Azhar has been treated as a model. In addition, UGC-approved courses in Science, Commerce and Humanities have become an integral part of the curriculum. By equipping its curriculum with modern teaching methods and blending tradition and modernity as well as secular and scared streams of education, the CIC is focussed on moulding morally committed professionals, intellectuals and spiritual leaders who are grounded in the Islamic scholarly tradition and conversant with the scientific, cultural, political, and intellectual currents that are shaping the modern society.

A rigorous Wafy Academic Calendar manages to gain 20 weeks of six working days in a semester (a total of 120 working days a semester / 240 working days a year). Through these courses, the CIC envisions to create a truly spiritual paradigm of knowledge, blending the theoretical and a practical disciplines.

Down Memory Lane

The CIC made a humble beginning in the year 2000 as an academic coordinating committee of a few Islamic colleges following a standardized curriculum and academic programmes. A precursor of this journey had started in mid 1990s at K.K.H.M. Islamic and Arts College, under Markazu Tharbiyathil Islamiyya, in Karthala of Malappuram District. Later, the CIC came into existence as an academic confederation of the various colleges who had shown interest in this programme and courses of study. The coordination has grown exponentially over a short span of time and became an academic umbrella of 55 colleges.

Registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (Regi. No: 379/04), the CIC has grown to become a multi-layered organisation, with a senate, a syndicate, an advisory board and various sub-committees such as Academic Council, Examination Board and finance committee, directives of which are binding on each affiliated college. At present, Wafa Campus, Pang is the headquarters of the the CIC.

The CIC currently implements two courses called Wafy and Wafiyya, for boys and girls respectively, at its affiliated colleges.

The names of the courses were derived from the Arabic stem ‘Wafa’, and its derivative ‘Awfa’ as used in the Quranic verse: “…..and anyone who fulfils what he has covenanted with Allah, Allah will soon grand him a great reward” (Fatah).

Wafy is an eight-year programme in Islamic studies (comprising two-year preparatory, four-year undergraduate and two-year postgraduate courses) coupled with a recognized University degree in any secular discipline.

Wafiyya is a five-year course in Islamic studies (comprising two-year preparatory and three-year undergraduate courses) coupled with a recognized University degree in any secular discipline.

Both the courses were tailored to mould a new and promising generation of Islamic scholars with in-depth knowledge both in Islamic studies and secular discipline.

Wafy is a modified and upgraded version of Al Muthavval course, a part of the erstwhile Nizamiyya Syllabus which had been adopted by most of the traditional Islamic colleges and seminaries in India for centuries.

Test

Synthesizing revelatory and scientific paradigms of knowledge is an essential need of our time. One of the biggest challenges facing institutions of higher Islamic learning the world over is to produce religious scholars equipped with not only an in-depth knowledge in the varied sciences of Islam but also a sophisticated understanding of the scientific, cultural, political, and intellectual currents that are shaping our world. A solution to this problem lies in wedding classical Islamic education with contemporary sciences, and producing scholars who understand the specific needs of contemporary societies. It was with this objective in mind that the Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) gave shape to comprehensive Islamic courses, designed by combining both Islamic and material streams of education. The CIC is looking to mould a promising generation of scholars equipped with comprehensive knowledge in Islamic studies coupled with a cutting-edge understanding of the specific pastoral needs of modern times.

Lateral Entry

The CIC allows a limited number of seats for lateral entry to Thamheediya II (Plus Two) for those who have completed 11th grade at school, as well as to Aliya I (Degree I) for those who have completed 12th grade at school, through a centralized eligibility test in Arabic grammar, language, and literature based on Wafy Thamheediya syllabus.

Degree

The admission to the Degree level is restricted to those who successfully complete the preperatory (Thamheediyya) course by the CIC or qualify in the lateral entry entrance examination.

Students who have completed Wafy preperatory (Thamheediyya) course have to apply for Wafy degree (Aliya) course through centralised admission process.

Coordination of Islamic Colleges - CIC

The CIC is looking to create a truly spiritual paradigm of knowledge, that is at times secular and sacred and blends the principles of faith, vision and creativity.

As an academic body which is constantly involved in the process of civilization-making, the CIC accords top priority to education of transformation. Future is something that we forge on the anvil of present with the hammer of efforts and melting in the heat of vision.

1. Setting up public schools of international standard with a broad-based system focused on offering an alternative schooling capable of inculcating religious and moral values in the students.

Wafy PG

The admission to the Postgraduate level is restricted to those who successfully complete the Aliya course by the CIC or its equivalent, with 50 per cent of marks in the chosen faculties.

Students who have completed Wafy Aliya course have to apply for Wafy PG course through centralised admission process. Currently there are three exclusive campuses for PG courses only.

Wafy Students Federation (WSF)

Wafy Students Federation (WSF) is the student wing of CIC, representing all the students from 57 colleges owned by or affiliated to CIC.

The federation is actively involved in conducting various programmes and social projects. It coordinates curricular and non-curricular activities of the students from all affiliated colleges. Some of the focus areas of its operations include empowering the students, developing their organizational and leadership skills and leveraging their creative potential for various vital social projects.

The WSF, which has been operational for over 15 years, has already made its presence felt by conducting some tremendously successful state-level events such as the biannual State Wafy Arts Fests and an international seminar under the theme ‘Multi culturalism and world peace’ etc. It also organizes a variety of interesting programmes to enhance the skills of the students such as elocution and writing training camps and media workshops etc. Another important event is the state-wide Wafy sports meet which is held by WSF in every two years. The organization utilises an effective networking system called ‘Wafy Orbit system’ to reach out to the community.

Wafiyya PG

The admission to the Wafiyya Postgraduate level is restricted to those who successfully completed the Wafiyya Aliya course by the CIC. Wafiyya PG course is provided in both regular and distance modes.

Wafiyya PG (Distance)

Registration for distance education is allowed for those who are pursuing higher studies with the following conditions:

1. Attending at least 10 days of compulsory contact classes in each semester.
2. Keeping a register of self-teaching hours.
3. Attending open-book exams.

Wafiyya Students Federation (WSF)

Wafiyya Students Federation (WSF) is a state-wide association of students from Wafiyya institutions under the CIC. The organization, founded in 2011 and headquartered at Markazu Tharbiyyathil Islamiyya, Valanchery, has conducted a number of significant activities in the field of art and culture. The main purpose of the organisation is to consolidate and nurture the extracurricular activities of the students. To this end, the organization has held various state-level art fests and competitions.

The official logo of the Wafiyya Students Federation was unveiled at the Senate meeting on August 6, 2018 by Panakkad Syed Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal.

M.Phil

After Wafy and Wafiyya PG, students can pursue a one-year independent research course (MPhil) subject to the CIC’s terms and conditions.

Terms for doing independent research (MPhil):

• 60% marks in Wafy PG examination.
• A pass in mark in Research Methodology Examination.
• This has to be either an extension of Wafy PG research dissertation or an independent research on new subjects.
• The synopsis approved by the Academic Council in the college must be submitted to the CIC Research Committee for approval.
• A defence on the synopsis will be held prior to approval by a panel nominated by the CIC
• The research period will be one year from the date in which CIC approves the synopsis. After one year, thesis can be submitted with a fine of Rs 300 per month.
• If the thesis is not submitted within two years after approval of the subject, the approval may be revoked.
• The Research Supervisor must have a Ph.D.
• The thesis must have a minimum of 200 pages. (Font: Traditional Arabic, Size: 16, Line Spacing: 1.5, Margin: 2 cm, Paper Size: A4, Hard Back Cover, Perfect Binding).
• On completing 10 months after the start of the research, an abstract of 50 pages will be submitted and a pre submission viva will be held. The thesis viva will be held after the submission of the full paper (Soft copy & 3 Hard Copies).
• The viva committee will consist of a Research Supervisor and two experts appointed by the CIC Academic Council.
• The first instalment (Rs.1000) of the course fee (Rs.5000) shall be paid with the submission of synopsis and the second instalment (Rs.2000) will be paid before the pre-submission and the last instalment (Rs.2000) will be paid before the thesis defence.
• The final copy of the revised dissertation, as per the instructions in VIVA, shall be submitted with the signature of the members of the VIVA committee and the stamp of the college.
• Certificate shall be provided after the approval of research paper and its mark/grade by the Academic Council.

Transfer Certificate

Students can change their institutes through Transfer Certificate if there is a valid reason for that. The transfer of students is directly handled among the affiliated colleges without prior permission from the CIC Office.
