CIC has designed the Wafy (for boys) and Wafiyya (for girls) courses to enable the Islamization of knowledge.

Wafy: Combines a post-graduate qualification in religious studies (Muthawwal) with a UGC-recognized university degree in secular subjects.

Wafiyya: Integrates a religious degree, a UGC-recognized university degree in secular subjects, and essential components of home science. Students who wish to continue their studies may pursue a two-year Wafiyya PG (Muthawwal) programme.

Wafy: Preparatory (Thamheediyya) — 2 years; Degree (Aliya) — 4 years; PG (Muthawwal) — 2 years. The course spans three stages over 8 years.

Wafiyya: Preparatory (Thamheediyya) — 2 years; Degree (Aliya) — 3 years. The course spans two stages over 5 years. A two-year PG programme is also available for those who wish to continue.

Yes. The Wafiyya PG programme is currently offered in distance mode.

The Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) is an academic body that has operated since 2000 from Markazutharbiyyath Islamiyya, Valanchery, with the mission of unifying and reforming the academic activities of Islamic colleges working in the field of higher religious and secular education.

28 Wafy colleges and 27 Wafiyya colleges are affiliated with CIC.

Yes. Secular study is mandatory to complete the Wafy and Wafiyya courses. Wafy and Wafiyya degrees are not awarded to students who do not obtain a UGC-recognized university degree.

During the final two years of the PG period, students may pursue post-graduate studies independently. At the same time, the course is designed to emphasize religious subjects.

CIC is committed to ensuring that affiliated institutions provide sound basic facilities. Institutions are graded and awarded stars based on these standards.

Basic facilities include:

Library: Spacious libraries with books, reference works, children's literature, syllabus-related supplementary reading, commentaries, and equipment in Arabic, English, Malayalam, and Urdu (with prescribed book counts for preparatory, degree, and PG stages).

Reading room: Newspapers, magazines, and publications in Malayalam, English, Arabic, and Urdu, along with other modern study facilities.

Auditorium: Modern auditoriums and smart classrooms for public programmes, general classes, debates, and training sessions.

Lab: Dedicated IT labs with internet connectivity and modern equipment.

Playground: Facilities for sports and recreation.

Residence: Quality accommodation and sanitary facilities (with prescribed standards for quality, capacity, and count), and standardized meals.

Wafy PG follows the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS). Under this system, a student who selects one faculty may also take credits from other faculties according to their interests. One credit represents one week of teaching–learning activities for a subject. This allows students to choose subjects based on their aptitude.

At the PG level there are three faculties and eight departments: Usuluddin, Sharia, and Language & Culture. The eight departments are Tafsir, Hadith, Aqeeda, Islamic and Arabic Studies (Wafiyya), Family Science, Transactional Science, Arabic Literature, and History.

Yes. Every PG student must submit a research dissertation of at least 100 pages on a topic related to their chosen department. PG studies are completed only after passing all examinations, including the viva voce.

Yes. Computer education at DCA level is mandatory before completing the Wafy and Wafiyya courses. A computer lab is a mandatory part of college infrastructure.

A semester means 70 weeks of six working days, or 120 working days. Examinations are held at the end of each semester.

The course emphasizes religious study. Of the eight periods in a day, five are devoted to religious subjects.

Yes. CIC treats community service as an integral part of the curriculum. At the degree level, every male student must complete 192 hours and every female student 100 hours of Compulsory Social Service (CSS). This includes a wide range of activities such as planning programmes in mahallas, connecting eligible people with government and non-government benefits, working for social and educational progress, helping patients and those in hardship, Islamic da'wah, health awareness classes, camps, religious study classes, environmental protection, rehabilitating those trapped in bad habits and behavioural disorders, and promoting healthy coexistence and friendship in communities.

Yes. Students may pursue a two-year Functional Arabic course and a one-year Functional Urdu course with recognition from NCPUL (National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language), under the Government of India.

Yes. The programme includes motivational sessions, cultural programmes, lectures by invited education experts and specialists from various fields, personality development classes, residential camps aimed at unity among Wafy college students, and newcomer gatherings. Students receive training through society activities, debates, seminars, and table talks. Handwritten and printed magazines, wall magazines, books, and souvenirs are also published.

The Wafy and Wafiyya Kalolsavam is an annual grand gathering of students, teachers, and art enthusiasts from Wafy and Wafiyya colleges. Around four thousand students compete in roughly two hundred items across Arabic, English, Urdu, and Malayalam. Quiz for Tomorrow, Fiqh Seminar, Cultural Dialogue, Arham Assembly, and Orbit Meet are among the events held as part of the festival.

Sports meets are held every year at the college level, and at the state level every two years.

WSF is the state-level association of male and female students in CIC member institutions. WSF has already undertaken many notable activities in cultural, arts, and sports fields. Its main goal is to unify and nurture students' curricular and co-curricular activities. State-level arts and sports meets, international seminars, and similar programmes are organized under WSF.

Wafiyya WSF is the state-level association of female students in Wafiyya colleges, carrying out notable activities of its own. The Wafiyya Kalolsavam is fully planned and executed by Wafiyya WSF. In connection with the recent festival, they also organized a noteworthy women's conference.

Students' home regions are organized into Orbits by district, taluk, and panchayat. Centered on each Orbit, students carry out educational, environmental, and charitable activities. A girls' Orbit programme also operates. Orbits help students recognize classmates from their hometowns and experience the feeling of a wider Wafy family.

The Wafy Research Council is an association of senior ustads (teachers) in Wafy institutions. It conducts discussions and dialogues on contemporary jurisprudential and intellectual topics, keeping public interest and the practical application of Islam in view. Senior students have the opportunity to participate. Seminars and other co-curricular programmes organized as part of this are beneficial to them.

Arham Assembly is a grand gathering of the extended Wafy family—college authorities and their families, around eight thousand students and their parents and families, around one thousand teaching and non-teaching staff and their families, alumni and their families, and everyone who rejoices in Wafy's growth. Arham Assembly currently has around thirty thousand members.

Yes. The Management, Parents and Teachers Association (MPTA) is an important part of CIC. The CIC-level MPTA includes two office bearers from the official representatives of affiliated institution-level MPTAs.

Wafy graduates have gained opportunities for higher study and research at world-renowned universities such as Al-Azhar, Cairo, JNU, Aligarh, and Jamia Millia Islamia in religious and secular fields. Many serve in teaching, da'wah, media, and business across the world. Several have produced scholarly writings that have drawn global attention.

A state-level Wafy Alumni Association is in operation, with panchayat, mandal, and district committees. It can bring meaningful change to the educational and social sphere and support new initiatives introduced by CIC.
